- Authors
Ortega, Raymond C.; Garner, William E.
- Abstract
The cultural and environmental perspectives of the individual client are important components of the rehabilitation planning process that are frequently overlooked entirely or, at best, addressed in a stereotypical manner based on the U.S. Government classification system. This paper addresses some of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM -5) and International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) tools that facilitate the acquisition and use of this information in the planning process. Following an overview of the DSM-5 and ICF tools, a more detailed description of four of the assessment tools and their potential uses are provided.
