- Title
PAY DIFFERENCES BETWEEN MEN AND WOMEN.
- Authors
Sanborn, Henry
- Abstract
This study examines the extent and nature of pay discrimination against women in the United States in 1949. Using 1950 Census and other data, the author adjusts for such factors as productivity differences, quit and absence differences, differences in work experience, and the like. The results of these adjustments lead the author to conclude that, whereas sex-discrimination on the part of consumers and fellow employees is compatible with his evidence, a strong degree of employer discrimination against women appears unlikely.
