- Title
Miroir, mouroir: (Dis)figuring the Ageing Woman in Simone de Beauvoir's La Vieillesse.
- Authors
McIlvanney, Siobhán
- Abstract
The article focuses on the underrepresentation of ageing women in French literature and criticism, particularly in Simone de Beauvoir's work "La Vieillesse." Topics include the lack of serious consideration of senescence in French fiction by women, the absence of age and ageing courses in humanities education, and the narrow and often hostile representations of ageing women in Beauvoir's "La Vieillesse," despite its potential for reshaping societal attitudes towards the ageing female body.
