- Abstract
The authors reflect on the clinical value of using soft markers as a screening test for trisomy 21. They discuss the various problems associated with the use of the soft markers in the clinical practice and argue that it is not the test of choice for woman requesting prenatal screening for trisomy 21. They contend that it is only the strong soft markers, such as those with likelihood ratios of more than 10, will contribute to further improve the performance of trisomy 21 screening programs.
