- Abstract
The aim of this study is to examine the sportsmanship orientations and Personality characteristics of Judo trainers according to some variables and to investigate the relationship between them. The research was conducted on 154 volunteer trainers who attended the Trainer Development Seminar, that organized by the Turkish Judo Federation. As a data collection method in research, Multidimensional Sportsmanship Orientation Scale and Eysenck Personality Questionnaire was used. For the statistical analysis of the data, independent sample t-test was used in paired comparisons, Anova in multiple comparisons, Pearson correlation test to look at the relationship between them, and simple linear regression analysis to determine what level it predicted. It was observed that the sportsmanship orientations and personality characteristics of judo trainers differed significantly according to marital status in the sub-dimensions of respect for opponent and lying in favor of married couples. Also it was determined that judo trainers' sportsmanship orientation and personality traits differed significantly in favor of those who became national team coaches in terms of sportsmanship orientation, respect for the opponent sub-dimension and personality traits in total dimension. Judo trainers' sportsmanship orientation and personality characteristics differed significantly according to the age variable, in favor of those between the ages of 26-35 in the extraversion sub-dimension and favor of those between the ages of 18-25 in the neuroticism sub-dimension. It was determined that the sportsmanship orientations and personality characteristics of judo trainers did not differ according to the gender variable. Low level of positive difference between the lying sub-dimension of judo trainers and the sub-dimension of adaptation to social norms and low level of positive correlation between the total of sportsmanship orientation and other sub-dimensions was found. In addition, a low level of significant negative correlation was found between the psychoticism sub-dimension and the total of sportsmanship orientation and all sub-dimensions. As a conclusion, it was determined that, sportsmanship orientations are not a predictable variable based on the personality characteristics of judo trainers.
