- Title
Prevention of Pneumococcal Infection With Vaccines: An Evolving Story.
- Authors
Shapiro, Eugene D.
- Abstract
The author reflects on the use of vaccines to prevent pneumococcal infections based on a study of the substitution of 13-valent conjugate vaccine against pneumococcus (PCV13) for 23 pneumococcal serotypes (PPSV23) for routine immunization. The study was published by K. J. Smith and colleagues within the issue. He describes cost-effectiveness analysis as robust for majority of variables. He cites the effectiveness of conjugate vaccines in nonbacteremic pneumococcal pneumonia (NPP) prevention.
