- Title
The Cardiovascular Biomarker Conundrum: Challenges and Solutions.
- Authors
Prasad, Vinay; Bonow, Robert O.
- Abstract
The authors deal with the challenges regarding the application of biomarkers in cardiovascular medicine. They contend that it is most appropriate to use biomarkers to provide prognostic information instead of using them as surrogate end points. They explain the use of biomarkers to enhance existing risk models such as the Framingham risk score. They also explain the use of biomakers as predictive tests, which help to determine patients who will benefit from a therapy.
