- Abstract
The article discusses a study which investigated the association between routine opt-out rapid human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) screening and detection of HIV infection in emergency department (ED) patients. The study involved patients who were 16 years or older and capable of providing consent for rapid HIV testing. The author found that there was an association between nontargeted opt-out rapid HIV screening in the ED and the identification of a modestly increased number of patients with new HIV diagnoses.
