The article explores the narratives of cannibalism as a folkloric and socio-historical phenomenon in Tartu, Estonia. It cites the nineteenth century lore and popularity of urban legends and rumor about murder, cannibalism, and organ snatching that were passed from one generation to another within the local village community and the Estonian variants of The Hot Chamber tale. It also mentions the story of the human sausage factory legends which reflects post-war images of violence.
