- Abstract
The theologian, man or woman, member of the Catholic Church, is the investigator of the truth revealed in the faith professed by the Ecclesial Community. Around this identity, this article will develop the understanding of a mission focused on researching and producing knowledge by disseminating it through scientific production. In collaboration with the Magisterium of the Church, the theologian has his freedom of research, always in fidelity to the Catholic faith. Among the competences required of the theologian is his ability to make connections between faith and reality, in the perspective of a more accurate understanding of the signs of the times, to be perceived and discerned. The professionalization of the theologian has its potential, but it is a controversial topic due to the demands of the labor market, marked by the perspective of utility and profitability. In this context, the laity are faced with considerable obstacles in living this ministry in the Church and in society, due even to personal and family sustainability.
