- Abstract
This paper reflects on the concept of tourism governance, a word that has been progressively occupying political speeches and research over the past two decades. It is a poorly defined concept outlines that, in any case, derived from the concept of government, suggesting an evolution. The concept is linked in particular to the idea that other mechanisms of social coordination outside government, such as networks of actors or the same market, it would be better alternatives to address the problems and collective challenges. Our argument is developed in three steps. The first is the debate on tourism as an object of public action, secondly discusses tourism policy and the objectives it has made over the past decades and, finally, proposes a way to address the idea of tourist governance that not avoids the political debate on the conflicts generated by tourism and the role of public actors in their management and collective decision making.
