Abstract
The article offers information on police and policing research in South Africa. It is said that concern about high levels of violent crime saw more punitive approach to crime control taking root. The decline in investigative capacity and public order policing skills made police organization unable to respond to the demands associated with a high-crime and increasingly volatile political environment.
