- Title
Wie das Leben so der Tod: Sterbedarstellungen von Kaisern und Königen in der Historiographie des früheren Mittelalters.
- Authors
Bernhardt, John W
- Abstract
He depicted Otto III as a pious and capable ruler who suffered greatly from the machinations of others, especially in dissolving the Merseburg bishopric, yet who deserved praise for his ideas of I renovatio i , overall church reform. Also, Gregory was obsessed with the "heretical" belief of Arianism, rulers who practiced it, and their influence on orthodox rulers, believers and theology. Historians in the Middle Ages showed a keen interest in death and dying, especially in the deaths of emperors, kings and noble rulers.
