- Abstract
The article presents a study which examined the effect of venipuncture in the plasma adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) concentrations in horses that could result in the misdiagnosis of pituitary pars intermedia dysfunction (PPID) in the animals. Also cited are the effects of stress on ACTH concentrations, as well as the clinical signs of PPID, including laminitis, loss of muscle mass, and abnormal fat distribution.
