- Title
Stamp Out Inflation.
- Authors
Berkin, Andrew L.; Luck, Christopher G.
- Abstract
The article presents a study which examines the Forever stamp, a stamp that locks in the price of first-class postage forever released by the U.S. Post Office, as an inflation fighting asset. It explores the trade-offs for consumers of purchasing Forever stamps to hedge their exposure to postage inflation versus investing in other inflation hedges, such as Treasury Inflation Protected Bonds or I Savings Bonds. The authors further examine the effects of both future realized inflation and taxes on this decision, and note other considerations as well.
