The article presents a literary criticism of the autobiographical novel "Gather Together in My Name," by Maya Angelou, focusing on her racial heritage and her search for identity. Angelou's novel depicts her travel experiences, her struggle against and anger over the gap between the democratic ideology of American culture and the reality of being an African American women. Other topics discussed in the novel include racial discrimination, inter-ethnic relation and moral integrity.
