- Abstract
The article provides an overview of the political situation in India's Northeast region under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It discusses the lack of attention given to Manipur, which is experiencing an armed ethnic conflict, despite Modi's claim to care for states with only two representatives in Parliament. The article also examines the BJP's efforts to integrate the Northeast into the rest of India, which have exacerbated internal divisions. It further explores the BJP's use of alliances and historical resentment against the Congress to gain power in the region. The article concludes by discussing the Modi government's peace agreements, which have been criticized for their lack of implementation and ambiguity. Additionally, it highlights the targeting of Muslims and Christians by the BJP, as well as the potential impact of controversial laws such as the Citizenship Amendment Act and the Uniform Civil Code. The BJP's development initiatives in the region are acknowledged but criticized for disregarding ecological costs. Overall, the article suggests that the BJP's majoritarian playbook has had both positive and negative consequences in the Northeast.
