The Menorah.
- Authors
LISNOFF, HOWARD
- Abstract
This article discusses a menorah that the author's family received as a gift. The menorah is a work of art that depicts six immigrants standing in front of the Statue of Liberty. These figures symbolize the millions of people who emigrated to the US in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The menorah also represents the religious celebration of Chanukah, which holds meanings of persecution and renewal for Jews. The author reflects on the welcoming nature of the Statue of Liberty and the current hostility towards immigrants. They also discuss the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and criticize the dehumanization of the Palestinian people. The article concludes by calling for a response to antisemitism and other forms of racist hate.
