- Abstract
This article discusses the development, refinement, and increased use of quantitative metrics by information professionals to determine how best to measure the impact of a peer author's articles and citation counts. The article stresses that an analysis of both the quality and impact of an author's writing requires vast knowledge of the subject area. A particular case is presented with the Reference Department of the Lister Hill Library of the Health Science at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
