- Authors
Al-Yagon, Michal; Margalit, Malka
- Abstract
Considerable research on individuals with specific learning disabilities (SLD) has been devoted to exploring etiology, characteristics, diagnosis, and treatment. The current paper reviews and integrates conceptual and empirical research, reflecting the Israeli perspective on the following major topics: the history and current use of the term "SLD" in Israel, the diagnostic criteria for SLD, theories regarding the etiology of SLD, common practice for assessing and diagnosing SLD, legalization, research, and intervention. Finally, we introduce several dilemmas that call for further discussion and directions for future research and intervention.
