- Abstract
This article discusses the concentration of the organochlorine pesticides including toxaphene and other organochlorine compound found in Siberian pintail ducks in Japan. Measurements were made seasonally of the pintail’s fat tissue for persistent pollutants such as toxaphene, DDTs, chlordanes, heptachlor, hexachlorbenzene, dieldrin, aldrin, and endrin. According to the authors, the data indicates that toxaphene contamination has spread to the Japan and the Far East. They concluded that migrant pintails are exposed to high levels of chlordanes in Japan rather than in their breeding grounds.
