- Abstract
The toxicological effect of dust generated in the production of refractories on the human organism as well as the illnesses that arise, such as different forms of pneumoconiosis, a disease caused by inhalation of significant quantities (up to 10%) of free silicon dioxide and inducing silicosis and lung cancer, are considered. The clinical treatment of cancer and silicosis is greatly complicated by the presence in the dust of MgO, FeO, Fe 2O 3, and Al 2O 3, which is confirmed by the results of medico-ecological monitoring of the environment. Legislative, technical-management, economic, and technological types of measures that become a serious alternative to the spread of illnesses of oncological etiology are considered. An original approach to the support of modern air quality standards in the production of refractories is proposed.
