- Abstract
The Turkish-German University (TDU) in Istanbul offers German-language bachelor's degree programs in various fields. Students must demonstrate their German language skills at B2/C1 level in order to start their specialized studies. TDU emphasizes a dynamic language concept and uses various methods for foreign language instruction. The study preparation includes general language instruction, specialized language instruction, blended learning, self-study time, language tandem, intern projects, and tutor projects. Students must demonstrate their German language skills at B2/C1 level before starting their specialized studies. At TDU, all language competencies are strongly promoted, including through writing portfolios, authentic listening texts, and projects. Interns from Germany can carry out their internships at TDU. The study preparation foreign language instruction at TDU is limited to two academic years. Students must demonstrate their German language skills after enrollment. Language instruction is based on a course system and students must take the TestDaF. In addition to language promotion, German culture is also taught. The use of technology in teaching is supported at TDU through various programs. The TDU team consists of native German speakers, sponsored lecturers/language teachers from the DAAD, and German-Turkish bilingual local teachers. Language instruction at TDU is competence-oriented and proficiency exams are offered after each language course. Preparation for the TestDaF and the teaching of test strategies are part of the language instruction. Approximately 66 percent of students have successfully passed the test and started their specialized studies. Students are not only prepared linguistically, but also academically, and must acquire additional key qualifications.
