- Title
Global Deleveraging and Foreign Banks' Lending to Latin American Countries.
- Authors
KAMIL, HERMAN; RAI, KULWANT
- Abstract
The article looks at how the 2008-09 global financial shock affected foreign bank lending to Latin American countries. It explores three factors that affected foreign bank lending, namely, the freezing of the international markets, the deterioration of the financial health of parent banks in developed economies and more restrictive lending standards. It adds that the effects of the crisis were less in countries where foreign bank lending was done through local affiliates in domestic currency.
