- Abstract
The article highlights a study on the adaptive nature of the immune system of lampreys. It was found that the dual recognition and response functions of adaptive immune system have evolved independently in jawless vertebrates. It is noted that the researchers used monoclonal antibodies that were specific for lymphocyte receptor VLRA and VLRB and have identified lymphocyte-like cell populations in the peripheral lymphoid tissues of lamprey larvae.
