- Abstract
An essay is presented which analyzes the book "The Blank Wall" by Elisabeth Sanxay Holding and its 1949 film adaptation "The Reckless Moment," directed by Max Ophüls. Particular focus is given to the treatment of housewives, mothers, and gender politics in both works. According to the author, the novel's main character differs significantly both from traditional literary depictions of motherhood and stylized depictions common in the hardboiled/noir film genre.
