- Abstract
The field evaporation of LaB[sub 6] single crystal was studied by the atom probe method at room temperature and at elevated (1145-1260 K) sample point temperatures. The field evaporation spectra of LaB[sub 6] showed a surprisingly large variety of cluster ions: ion species of the LaB[sup +m, sub n] type (n = 1-9; m = 1-4) and La[sub 2]B[sup +m, sub n] type (n = 1-15; m = 2, 3) were observed at room temperature, and doubly charged ions of the LaB[sup +2, sub n] type (n = 1-5) were observed in the high-temperature spectra. The physical aspects of this phenomenon are discussed.
