- Abstract
In this paper the study of terminology of agro-mechanics in Albanian is undertaken through a comparative approach with English, in which the former serves as the basis of the study, whereas the latter is adopted on the grounds that English is an international language with a global reach and a unique and consolidated terminology. The study of the terminology of agromechanics is of linguistic interest since although its lexicon occupies a place of its own, it shares units with the lexicon of two fields, agriculture and mechanics. Still the very narrowness of the field allows us wiggle room to penetrate deep into the forms of expression and content of the terms in this field to enable us to uncover their internal connections and workings as well as the general characteristics and features of the development of this terminology. Through the analysis of form, composition and construction of terminology are discovered the mechanisms at work in the creation and formation of terms by way of semantics, morphology and syntax. An equally important space in the study is given to semantic-lexical occurrences including polysemy, homonomy, synonymy, antonymy. The example of a bilingual glossary in the field of agro-mechanics appears towards the end of the study, which is constructed on the basis of a wider conception of connections occurring in the systems of the represented terms.
