- Abstract
Nephrotic syndrome is common glomerular disorder in children and the predisposition and clinical course may associate with certain interleukins promoter site gene polymorphisms. To assess the role of IL-6 -G174C single nucleotide gene polymorphism (SNP) in clinical course and predisposition to nephrotic syndrome. Sixty patients with thirty apparently healthy individuals as control group were enrolled in this study. Blood samples were collected from patients and controls and DNA extraction was made from each blood sample then SNPs were detected by using restriction fragment length polymorphism technique (RFLP) and the results were compared with serum levels of interleukin by using (ELISA) technique. The mutant homozygous genotypes (CC) of IL-6 - G174C gene were much less frequent among patients than control with significant difference. NS patients showed higher serum level of IL-6 than controls. IL-6 may play a role as humeral mediator and affects steroid responsiveness.
