- Abstract
This study aimed to evaluate the correlation degree among the growth of cattle and deforestation in the southeast region of Pará state, Brazil, in the following municipalities: São Félix do Xingu, Paragominas, Marabá, Santana do Araguaia, and Cumaru do Norte, in the period of 2006 to 2010, considering deforestation as an indicator advancement of agrosilvipastoral activities, and human occupation commonly in areas covered by forestson Brazil's North. Were used the database Program for Calculation of Amazon Deforestation (PRODES) of National Institute for Space Research (INPE), where were obtained the values of deforestation and Automatic Recovery System (SIDRA) from Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) to acquire data of cattle's growth. The results showed that there is a high relation among the cattle in the southeast Pará's state region with total production of the state (p < 0,05), observing in the municipalities of São Félix do Xingu and Paragominas a linear behavior, presenting a Pearson's correlation coefficient r = 0,97 and - 0,98, respectively. The municipalities of Santana do Araguaia, Marabá and Cumaru do Norte show non-linear behavior among the variables studied.
