- Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of twelve-weeks long game and rhythm based basketball exercises on the strength development of girls. The study group was selected amongst 16 girls from the town of Sarıkamış, Kars whose voluntary participation was secured from their parents. The average age of the girls was 9,0±0,89; the average height of the girls was 133,8±7,7 cm, and the average weight of the girls was 29,9±7,7 kg. Right-left handgrip strength test, 30 second push-up test and sit-up test, pull-up test, vertical jump test, right-left foot penta jump test and horizontal jump test were used to determine the improvements on the strength of the girl athletes. In order to identify the anaerobic strength levels of the participants, the Lewis Nomogram, which is formulized by marking the body weights and horizontal jumping levels, was used. The SPSS 24.0 was used to analyze the data statistically. The threshold mark for the significant difference between the first and second measurement estimates was taken as p<0,05. The distribution levels of the data were analyzed by "Kolmogorov Smirnov" test and it was found that all parameters showed normal distribution. Also, Paired Samples T-Test was used to determine the difference between the pre-test and post-test strength improvement levels. The findings of the research demonstrated that after twelve weeks training of game and rhythm based basketball exercises, the difference between the pre-test and post-test strength development levels proved statistically meaningful (p<0,01). The results confirmed that game and rhythm based basketball exercises on a pre-determined span of time (12 weeks) can positively affect the strength levels of female children in sports performance. The positive improvements on all strength parameters of the participants supported the findings (p<0,05). Therefore, it can be concluded that canalizing the children towards basketball especially in early ages can contribute to the physical and physiological development of them before adolescence.
