- Abstract
The article discusses a study on the determinants of body mass index (BMI), in relation to the growing evidence of health risks associated with the rise in childhood obesity. The researchers found that the influence of the FTO gene on BMI becomes stronger, with heritability increasing from 0.48 at age 4 to 0.78 at age 11. The findings suggest that increases in BMI heritability may be due to children increasing selecting environments correlated with their genetic propensities.
