- Abstract
The article discusses a study about the association between fat mass and obesity-associated gene (FTO) risk alleles, and obesity and diabetes among postmenopausal women in the U.S. The study involved 968 white women and 749 ethnic minority women. Results of the study show that both the rs9939609 and rs8050136 single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) are related to the waist circumference and weight but not height. It adds that a possible-ethnicity specific relation between FTO and obesity is implied by the study.
