- Abstract
Congenital absence of teeth is one of the most common anomalies of the dento-maxillary system. Its prevalence has increased in recent years, especially by changing eating behaviours. The entire oral cavity undergoes transformations not only in size and shape, but also in terms of number and structure of the teeth. Hypodontia describes a numerical reduction of the dental formula, the number of missing teeth being less than 6. Cases with asymmetrical changes of the dental quadrants by number, shape, position or structure of teeth are difficult to manage, because the question arises whether perfect symmetry or tooth structure preservation prevails. This article presents the case of a 12-year-old male patient with missing second premolars in 3 of the 4 dental quadrants, in which it was decided to preserve the only second premolar and to correct the occlusion by orthodontic treatment.
