- Abstract
Marriage bond and some situations that arise after that, bring to the agenda various legal issues between spouses. Admittedly, at the beginning of these, especially for women, the anxiety about livelihood comes whether they have the economic self-sufficiency or not. Evaluated in this context and covering many material and spiritual requirements alimony is men's responsibility in Islamic law. It is also known that the material situation of men is decisive on the amount of alimony and type of its payment. Ottoman State shar'i courts where are applied basically Islamic law rules and in special case law of Hanafi sect in addition to being fed from the custom, are important in terms of ensuring the possibility of following the course of legal issues between spouses through the records them hold. Located among the cases seen in these courts and occurring for reasons such as divorce, death or disappearance, men's inability to provide alimony is remarkable in terms of showing that women can move their livelihood concerns to court. In this study, alimony records situated in Konya court registers dated the 17th century, are handled with its various dimensions. During the mentioned period in Konya women's alimony requests from divorced husbands or from the deputies/guarantors of deceased husbands for both themselves and the children on account of custody and tutelage have been examined, through applications that they made in person or by proxy.
