- Abstract
Objective: To investigate the influence of ownership structure and financial performance on the likelihood of disclosure of social and environmental sustainability reports (SRI) by Brazilian public companies. Methodology/approach: The study is characterized as descriptive and quantitative with secondary data and the use of logistic regression. Originality/relevance: originality concerns specifically the intention to fill existing gaps in the brazilian scenario, within the scope of the theme in question. Another relevant factor is the importance of the effects of CSR on the financial performance of companies, whose results will guide decisions for future academic research on the subject. Results: It was observed that shareholder concentration, government and institutional ownership are associated with socio-environmental responsibility. It is also perceived that the participation of companies in the Corporate Governance Index, size, total debt, and financial performance measured by ROA and Tobin's Q are positively related to SRI. Theoretical/methodological contributions: the contribution of the study refers to the state of the art of knowledge. The topic should be explored in the literature and this study inserts it, presenting new discussions. Social and management contributions: by adhering to CSR practices, the company materializes intangible values such as respectability, credibility and reputation. The contribution for management consists of the applicability of the results obtained in future strategic and political decisions of companies and regulatory bodies in developed and emerging countries.
