- Authors
Bernheim, Ruth Gaare; Peake, Lilian
- Abstract
The article explores the case of Laura McLaughlin in demonstrating how undergraduate students have been developed as significant partners of public health in the future. It notes that the field has been attracting commitment from the undergraduate and that the public health officials are using the trend in preparing them to the vocation through funding introductory courses. In McLaughlin's case, her school and a health district in her state have collaborated to prepare her for the job by exposing her to an interdisciplinary public health-oriented course and to daily immersion in the Thomas Jefferson Health District. Insights by McLaughlin on her first-hand experience during the swine flu outbreak in Virginia and on the purpose of the public health are also provided..
