- Authors
Sood, Shefali; Al‐Aswad, Lama A.
- Abstract
This article discusses the impact of social determinants of health on glaucoma, highlighting the disparities in diagnosis, management, and severity of the disease among different racial and socioeconomic groups. The authors emphasize the need for global research to understand if these disparities are influenced by social context or other factors. They also explore how factors such as healthcare access, economic stability, education, and social context contribute to these disparities. The article suggests that advancements in technology, such as electronic health records and telemedicine, can help address these disparities, but caution is needed to ensure that these systems do not exacerbate existing inequalities. The authors call for increased awareness and active participation in research and targeted interventions to address sociodemographic disparities in glaucoma.
