- Title
Families and social welfare.
- Abstract
The article informs that the Australian Institute of Family Studies was pleased to have its new book on families and social welfare launched by the Minister for Family and Community Services, Senator Jocelyn Newman. The Australian welfare system is changing. A new agenda is emerging and radical reforms are in the air. The book "Reforming the Australian Welfare State," edited by the Institute's Research Manager Peter Saunders, is a timely collection of essays that examines the new welfare agenda and reflects on the case for radical reform. In its twelve chapters, the book brings together diverse perspectives from both advocates of reform and opponents--writers who believe that the welfare system has swollen to a point where it must be re-thought, and those who warn that it is still doing too little to help the least fortunate citizens.
