- Abstract
A study published in the journal Paediatric & Perinatal Epidemiology reveals that one in four women enter pregnancy with a pre-existing condition. The study, conducted in British Columbia, Canada, over a 20-year period, found that the most common pre-existing conditions were depressive disorders, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, chronic hypertension, and diabetes mellitus. The prevalence of psychiatric disorders, particularly in women born after 1985, has been increasing. The study highlights the need for robust preconception care strategies and multidisciplinary, patient-centered care approaches to improve outcomes for pregnant women with pre-existing conditions.
