- Abstract
The article investigates the aluminum concentration in breast cyst fluid (BCF) of patients with gross cystic breast disease (GCBD). The connection of aluminum-based antiperspirant salts in the formation of GCBD is also studied. Aluminum concentration was measured in 48 BCF samples, 30 human blood serum samples and 45 human breast milk samples. Results revealed a higher median level of aluminum in apocrine type I than in transudative type II. Also, aluminum concentration was found to be 6 μg I-1 in serum and 25 I-1 in breast milk. It is concluded that it is possible to prevent GCBD if aluminum-based antiperspirants are the source of the disease.
