- Abstract
Education is a dynamic force that changes the structure of the community and provides a better level of living. The education system lacking the ability to meet the future needs of society should be restructured. The OECD issued a report which comprises an analysis of the countries that have the potential to raise scientists. In this analysis, Turkey ranks in the last place. When the change in the level of qualifications in the main areas in Turkey is analyzed annually, it is obvious that increasing the quality of the education in the country is a must. In this study, the changes in the level of proficiency in the main areas of science, mathematics literacy, reading skills for Turkey were evaluated annually according to the PISA data, and the factors affecting the education were emphasized. In order to reduce the adverse effects of these factors on the education system and to determine what kind of education model should be designed to increase the quality of education, persons related with education were interviewed. Also in this study, the applicability and benefits of the system approach to the field of education are emphasized. Experienced faculty members and staff were interviewed about the mathematics education in the formal education system. In order to improve the mathematics education in the country, an application of system approach steps to mathematics education has been made.
