- Abstract
The article reports that Namibia Diamond Trading Co. (NDTC) named eleven Namibia-based diamond-cutting companies as sightholders. The NDTC is a public-private sector joint venture between the Namibia government and De Beers. The term sightholder refers to a company that is NDTC authorized to buy rough diamonds in bulk from the Namdeb diamond mining joint venture. Ten percent of Namdeb's annual production to be made available to local cutters represents nearly five percent of the gross domestic product (GDP) of Namibia. The eleven cutters include Hardstone Processing, Finesse Diamond Corp., Laurelton-Reign Diamonds, and Trau Bros Diamonds Namibia.
