- Abstract
This article discusses the fall of the Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) regime in 2018 and the role of civil society organizations (CSOs) and activism in bringing about this change. It explores the historical resistance against the EPRDF and the evolution of non-violent struggle in African authoritarian states. The article also examines the role of CSOs in Ethiopia's development and their relationship with the state. It highlights the use of social media in political activism and the challenges faced by CSOs, including restrictive government policies. The article concludes by discussing the promising reforms that followed the political change in 2018. Overall, it provides a comprehensive analysis of the dynamics of state-society relations and non-violent struggle in Ethiopia.
