- Abstract
This text is a translation into Portuguese of the short story "Glück Haben" by Elisabeth Langgässer. The story addresses the theme of mental illness and post-traumatic stress as a consequence of the atrocities committed during World War II. The narrator of the story listens to the monologue of a patient in a sanatorium, where the woman narrates the misfortunes of her life, which she insists on calling luck. The patient ends her account with the words "shitty life" and puts everything she previously narrated into doubt. The narrator becomes friends with the woman and discovers that she used to be engaged to a gas man. The story ends with the narrator reflecting on luck and misfortune in life.
