- Abstract
The article profiles Kate Field who was one of the first women to contribute to the journal "Atlantic Monthly." It describes her as an economic imperialist and comments on her opinions regarding the annexation of Hawai'i by the U.S. Her opinions regarding home rule, the political abilities of native Hawaiians, and manifest destiny are also discussed. Particular focus is given to Field's investigations concerning the social and political nature of Hawai'i and its population during her visit to the region between 1895 and 1896.
