- Abstract
Traumatic flail tricuspid valve is a rare clinical entity, and its acute diagnosis can be challenging where initial focus may be on other injuries. A pulmonary artery catheter was placed for cardiac monitoring reading high venous filling pressures (central venous pressure: 20 cmH SB 2 sb O; pulmonary artery pressure: 20/10 mmHg; pulmonary capillary wedge pressure: 9 mmHg) and low cardiac index (CI: 1.6) which was suggestive of right atria pressure overload. Transoesophageal echocardiogram can be an additional diagnostic tool in severe shock in polytrauma patients with limited cardiac views for a transthoracic echocardiography study.
