- Abstract
The wavy sea breeze front can be seen at the interface between easterly and westerly over and to the north of the airport. gl The model simulation result provides further information about the structure of the sea breeze front. This article provides a novel report of the following observations of sea breezes at this airport: The wavy pattern of the sea breeze front (the convergence zone between background wind and the sea breeze). As a result, it is important for the operation of the airport that it receives an accurate forecast/nowcast of the occurrence of a sea breeze, including the timing of any change in wind direction, the strength of the sea breeze and the wind direction change that may occur. This article considers three cases of sea breezes as observed at Hong Kong International Airport, together with the results of numerical simulations, including wavy structures within the sea breeze, vortices along the sea breeze front and large jumps in temperature and relative humidity associated with the sea breeze.
