- Abstract
Three Eurasian Pygmy-Owl broods were discovered in the Jura Mountains, at relatively close distances from each other at 425 and 470 meters respectively. Nesting took place at an average altitude of 1200 meters, in Spruce Picea abies with a diameter of about 50 centimeters. Two of them were woodpecker cavities in dead trees, while the third was a natural cavity in a healthy tree. The breeding season of 2021 was favoured by an abundance of forest-dwelling small mammals, which led to a high breeding success and to early laying dates.
