- Abstract
In this text, we intend to argue that the financial system of Bretton Woods was constructed inside of an anti-symmetrical correlation of forces, in which the United States had one weight predominant to impose its hegemony. Our argument is anchored methodologically by the realism of the international politics, through which the relation between the States is lead more by force (dispute for hegemony) of what for the consensus. Like result, the hegemonic power of the United States was losing its initial force, throughout years 1950 and 1960, while the main European economies, beyond Japan, reached high indices of economic growth, resulting in the end of the agreement of Bretton Woods. Our sources are studies of the making and the disruption of the Bretton Woods system.
